EVA M. STEWART
Born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, Eva M. Stewart graduated from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, B.S. In Business Administration and received a
M.S.W. From Howard University School of Social Work. Throughout her professional career, she used her talents to create innovative programs and to inspire and nurture young professionals; and used her positions to change policies to enhance the quality of life for others.
Eva Stewart is known as a living legend of social work field education. For 17 years, she served as Director of Field Education at Howard University School of Social Work. She is a fonder of the Mid-Atlantic Consortium of Directors and Coordinators of Field Education which established the Council on Social Work Education
(CSWE) Commission on Field Education. Ms. Stewart has presented papers at numerous social work conferences and workshops throughout the country and has developed scholarly papers for publication in professional journals. As principal investigator of several grants, she secured over $1.5 million to develop educational programs and provide graduates school stipends for students. These grants enabled over 500 students to receive specialized training in public welfare, health, mental health, gerontology and child welfare.
Selected as a "SOCIAL WORK PIONEER" by National Association of Social Workers
(NASW), Ms. Stewart has been active on local and national levels of professional organizations. She has been elected by members as well as selected by organization presidents to serve in numerous leadership positions; too many to enumerate. In the community, she has served on numerous boards that strive to enhance the lives of residents of the District of Columbia.
To illustrate the breadth of her involvements within the social work profession as well as in the community, a few positions she has held will be named. They include Board of Southwest Community House, Board of Mental Health Association of DC; Chair, National Verne Lyons Scholarship Committee for
NASW; CSWE Commission for Field Education; NASW National Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identification; Howard University School of Social Work Alumni Association; Gallaudet University Advisory Committee for Field Instruction; and Counseling Ministry, Metropolitan Baptist Church.
Her dedicated service has been recognized by many organizations. Her most recent honors include "Outstanding Alumni Award" from Howard University School of Social Work; "Social Work Community Service Award" by the Emeritus Foundation of Volunteers. "Lifetime Achievement Award" by National Association of Social Workers
(NASW) Metro Washington Chapter, and the "Presidential Award for Social Work Education" by
NASW.
Ms. Stewart has dedicated her life to the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge as it relates to improving social work education and practice. She has demonstrated a consistent pattern of unselfishly giving her time, knowledge and leadership abilities to promote the interests of her students. colleagues and community. Hew contributions are best reflected in the successful careers of her social work students and enhanced lives of community residents.
