March was Women's History Month
and the Institute hosted a symposium, "Telling Stories,
Inspiring Sisters". The event featured three Howard
University graduates who have been highly successful in very
different fields. Aileen Hernandez has been an activist, policy
and newsmaker for over 40 years. Paula D. McClain, PhD, is a
political science professor at Duke University who, in addition to
many publications, has pioneered programs that link high-risk
students with university programs. Artis Hampshire-Cowan is the
General Counsel for the University and has received honors and
awards for her contributions to the legal field.
After these speakers inspired a
room full of graduate and undergraduate students with the stories
of their challenges and resources, the Institute honored ten women
as Important Women of Howard University. These women were
nominated by their peers for their diligence in supporting the
mission of the University.

dynamic women below.
