Announcements

March 2001

AAWI hosted several campus visits. The NAAWLI class of 2001visited Howard University. Some of their interests included AAWI as well as Moorland Spingarn research Center.

Dr. Rebecca Reviere, Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology, is the new Co-Director of the Institute.  Dr. Reviere received her PhD from Florida State University in 1989 and has been at Howard University ever since.  Her research interests include gender differences in morbidity and mortality and needs assessments.  She teaches courses in Social Psychology, Medical Sociology, Death and Dying, and Sociology of Mental Health.

Dr. Florence B. Bonner has been invited to be a member of the Foreign Policy Institute (FPI), a program funded by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and run by the Center for Women Policy Studies.  The Foreign Policy Institute focuses on issues of women's reproductive rights and health as reflected in the Cairo International conference on Population and Development.  The goal of the FPI is to increase state legislators' knowledge of the United States foreign assistance programs and the impact of foreign policy decisions on women and girls worldwide and to assist them to add these issues to their own portfolios.  Dr. Bonner and the FPI will bring a selected group of women state legislators to Washington for briefings on these important issues.  The work of this Institute will have an important impact on elected officials and public policy worldwide.

Congratulations, Dr. Bonner.
