2001
AAWI
hosted several campus visits. The NAAWLI class of 2001visited
Howard University. Some of their interests included AAWI as well
as Moorland Spingarn research Center.
Dr.
Rebecca Reviere, Associate Professor of Sociology and
Anthropology, is the new Co-Director of the Institute.
Dr. Reviere received her PhD from Florida State
University in 1989 and has been at Howard University ever
since.
Her research interests include gender differences in
morbidity and mortality and needs assessments.
She teaches courses in Social Psychology, Medical
Sociology, Death and Dying, and Sociology of Mental Health.
Dr. Florence
B. Bonner has been invited to be a member of the Foreign
Policy Institute (FPI), a program funded by the John D. and
Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and run by the Center for
Women Policy Studies. The
Foreign Policy Institute focuses on issues of women's
reproductive rights and health as reflected in the Cairo
International conference on Population and Development.
The goal of the FPI is to increase state legislators'
knowledge of the United States foreign assistance programs and
the impact of foreign policy decisions on women and girls
worldwide and to assist them to add these issues to their own
portfolios. Dr. Bonner and the FPI will bring a selected group of women
state legislators to Washington for briefings on these
important issues. The
work of this Institute will have an important impact on
elected officials and public policy worldwide.
